AFPC was founded in 1974 and is the designated Arizona recipient of federal funds for family planning services under Title X of the Public Health Services Act. The Title X Program is designed to provide comprehensive family planning services to low income individuals. The Council contracts with ten community based (delegate) agencies which provide direct client services at clinic sites in nine counties. About 40,000 women and men are served every year. Services are provided at no or low cost depending on family income. While managing the federal Title X grant is the Council's primary responsibility, we take pride in promoting a larger agenda that will increase access to family planning services. The Council conducts surveys and gathers data to assess the need for family planning services in Arizona. This information is used to provide a factual foundation to promote changes in public policy and to guide the Council in funding decisions and the development of new programs. The Council is an active participant in coalititions and works with community partners to help shape the public debate and move the family planning agenda forward in Arizona. AFPC is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, governed by a community based Board of Directors. |
